I realize that it's been quite awhile since I've updated this blog, but things have been real busy around my place. I have been spending quite a lot of time chasing severe storms all across the plains of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. If you are interested in reading about my severe storm chases, you can check out my chase blog here.
We have been getting a lot of rainfall in Pittsburg, Kansas so far this Spring. I really hope that the rainfall will continue into the Summer months, to help keep us cool. At least we don't have drought conditions this Spring, like we did last Spring. Rainfall last year at this time was really pitiful. Hopefully in the next few days, I will post a blog entry giving some total rainfall amounts so far this year, compared to last year. Also, don't forget to check out CoCoRaHS (Community Collaborative Rain Hail & Snow Network) if you are interested in being a volunteer precipitation observer for your area. More information can be found on there website here.
It won't be long until the dreadful dog days of Summer will arrive, and I'll be wishing for Fall to arrive once again. If anyone out there ever has any weather questions, or if you just want to chat, you can get ahold of me through my website www.seksweather.com

New Snowfall
Well, we received a total of 3.6" of new snowfall in the last 24 hours. This snow was very fine and did not have much moisture content. The moisture received from the snow amounted to 0.27". There are still flurries in the forecast, but we are not expected to received much more snow. The big story is the cold artic air that continues to drive south. Another artic cold front is expected to swing through Southeast Kansas overnight tonight, and keep our temperatures well below the daily average high temperature of 40 Degrees. Hopefully, this afternoon I will get some time to get out and take a few photographs of the new snow. We have not had this much snow during one winter for quiet some time, here in Southeast Kansas.

More Snow!!
Well, as of 3:45 P.M. this afternoon, we have received 2.1" of new snowfall here in Pittsburg, Kansas. For January we had a total of over 7" of snow, sleet and freezing rain. The cold temperatures are also forecasted to stick around through at least the second week of February. These past few years of very mild winter weather has really spoiled us, here in Southeast Kansas. All I can say, is that I'm really ready for February to be over with and let the warmer weather take over. With the warmer weather, comes storm season, and that usually starts around the middle of March.
